A delegation from Beara, along with members from Cork and Kerry County Councils attended a reception in Boston's City Hall. The reception was hosted by Council President, Ed Flynn.
This was the first of many official engagements fulfilled by the Beara delegation to celebrate 300 years of the Irish contribution to the State of Massachusetts.
Before attending the Council reception, Kelly Sullivan, was selected as new Chief of the O’Sullivan Clan. Kelly is the granddaughter of Albert Sullivan, one of 5 brothers who died aboard the USS Juneau, when the ship was torpedoed and sunk off Guadalcanal during World War II.
It was indeed an honour to meet Council President Ed Flynn and other Council members.
The performances of talented musicians who travelled from Beara were very well received. Amazing guitarist from Allihies, Natalie O'Meara, and wonderful harpists from Ardgroom, Catriona and Julia Harrington did the occasion proud. I'm sure you will see from previous video posts on Facebook that these ladies are brilliant musicians.
I would like to add a huge thank you to Jim O’Sullivan from Castletownbere who was the organiser of this trip and whose hard work behind the scenes made the trip a huge success. A huge thank you also to Mike Dwyer in Boston for his work putting things in place on the U.S side. Thanks to everyone who helped in any way during the week.
It was a fantastic trip and a great opportunity to see Boston. We were privileged to gain access to places the public would not ordinarily get to see. Great fun was had by all and we made some fabulous new friends along the way.
