Wishing you all near or far a Happy St. Patrick' s Day from Castletownbere, Beara, Co. Cork. A fantastic morning, beautiful sunshine, blue skies and although perfect bank holiday weather, it adds to the disappointment, as you think it would be an ideal day for our traditional St. Patrick's Day Parade!! One of the biggest days in Castletownbere festival calendar, the day would normally attract a large crowd from all over the Beara Peninsula. Unfortunately due to covid restrictions all the parades in the world are cancelled for the second year in a row.
When you can't hold a traditional parade, you come up with plan B and hold a car parade instead!! At 3pm the cars line up at the pier, which would have been the traditional spot for meeting. I decided to do a little video of everyone who participated before setting off around the town. Everyone enjoyed the parade and atmosphere. It was lovely to mark the day and I have no doubt we will be back bigger and better next year. A huge thank you to all who turned up on the day, glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the feed back.
