Peg's Shop in Adrigole, Beara closed it's doors after 90 years in business on Saturday, 9th of December. Maureen O Sullivan who took over the shop from her mum, Peg, had been running the shop with her daughter, Margaret.
An emotional Maureen said "the decision to close wasn't taken lightly". She thanked all those who supported her over the years. The high esteem Maureen and her family are held in was evident with the well wishers that had been calling all day to wish her the best of luck in her retirement. I was delighted to listen to some of Maureen's many stories while I visited to take some photographs of the ocassion. Like all small shops customers become good friends, The banter and craic of the local shop and post office will be sadly missed in the parish of Adrigole where "Peg's Shop" was an institution rather than just a small shop!
